The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has commenced the work to increase the capacity of the Chandu Budhera water treatment plant (WTP) by 100 MLD, which will fulfil the increasing population's demand in new sectors, particularly sectors 81 to 115.
The first phase of the project is expected to cost Rs 73 crore and will be completed in June 2024. According to the promoters, the contractor has begun pre-construction work and the plant's hydraulic design has been submitted to a consultant. The construction of a 100 MLD capacity unit (number-4) at Chandu Budhera is currently underway.
GMDA currently supplies 300 MLD of water from the Chandu Budhera plant and 270 MLD from the Basai plant. The metropolitan authority intends to increase the capacity of both WTPs by more than 50 percent by 2024.
Another 100 MLD unit (number-5) will be built at Chandu Budhera in the second phase, for which a detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared. Meanwhile, a 90 MLD WTP unit is planned for the Basai WTP. As a result, the combined filtration capacity of the two plants will rise to 860 MLD in 2024. The addition of 200 MLD will bring the total water supply from Chandu Budhera WTP to 500 MLD by 2024, while a new 90 MLD unit at Basai will boost the city's water supply.
GMDA is increasing the availability of drinking water for residents, particularly in new sectors along the Dwarka Expressway and Southern Peripheral Road (SPR). It has already begun work on providing master sewer lines of various sizes in sectors 68-76, with completion scheduled for December 2023.
The GMDA also intends to build a sewer network in sectors 77 to 80 and 103 to 115. It has also proposed building a 100 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP) in Behrampur and a 40 MLD plant in Naurangpur.
