GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport has successfully conducted a crucial validation flight at the upcoming Bhogapuram Airport near Visakhapatnam.
The flight, carried out by an Air India aircraft, validated the airport’s airside infrastructure, navigational aids, runway systems, and overall operational readiness, meeting regulatory requirements set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This milestone is vital for obtaining an aerodrome license, which is a key step before starting commercial flight operations.
Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Rammohan Naidu, highlighted that the Bhogapuram Airport will serve as a significant driver of economic growth in the region, stating "Visakhapatnam is set to become the economic capital of the East. This airport will enhance regional connectivity, create jobs, and unlock Andhra Pradesh's immense tourism potential." The airport, scheduled to begin operations in June 2026, will feature a state-of-the-art cargo terminal and an aviation hub.
