Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd (GPPL), promoted by APM Terminals, is reportedly in
talks with the Essar Group and Mumbai-based Swan Energy to form a consortium for
setting up a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal project at Pipavav, Gujarat.
GPPL has begun an internal study for an either onshore or floating LNG
terminal project. The study will look at pipeline options for the Pipavav port
to transport gas from the proposed LNG terminal. GPPL is yet to work out the
details of the scale of the terminal project and the investment plan. The
company is likely to rope in equity partners that could provide technology
expertise or access to LNG supply.
Pipavav port has 400 ha and a considerable part of the land has been reserved
for the LNG project.
