Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) has received a letter of award (LoA) from the Government of India for the design, construction, and delivery of two Coastal Research Vessels for Geological Survey of India (GSI). The total contract value stands at Rs 489.98 crore.
Under the terms of the contract, GRSE is required to complete the construction and delivery of both vessels within a period of 36 months from the date of signing of the contract. The Coastal Research Vessels are envisioned to support the GSI’s vital geological, oceanographic, and hydrographic survey missions. These vessels will be equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and scientific instrumentation designed to facilitate accurate and efficient data collection from India's coastal and near-shore environments.
The upcoming vessels are expected to feature cutting-edge onboard laboratories, advanced navigation systems, and multi-beam echo sounders among other capabilities, allowing for deep seabed mapping and exploration. The award is a key milestone in GRSE’s expanding portfolio of specialised vessels beyond defence platforms, demonstrating its ability to serve both strategic and scientific sectors with precision and innovation.
