Gentari, the renewable energy arm of Malaysia-headquartered oil firm Petronas, is planning to expand its footprint in India’s utility-scale power sector. It is exploring opportunities in energy storage projects as well as round-the-clock power in India.
The company will also focus on battery and pump storage to scale up India’s grid infrastructure. In terms of collaborative initiatives, it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Karnataka, and also with Tamil Nadu to carry out feasibility studies for green hydrogen projects. Meanwhile, it is also looking to engage in solar, as well as onshore and offshore wind projects.
For its electric vehicle (EV) business, Gentari expects to deploy close to 4,000 vehicles by the end of 2023 across 10 cities. In green mobility, it is also ramping up EV charging infrastructure in Indian cities.
India being a key market for growth, Gentari is in talks with potential partners to forge both organic and inorganic growth.Amplus, another subsidiary of Petronas, currently thrives in the commercial and industrial space.
