The Goa state government has notified the amendment to the Code of Comunidades, which invests powers in the government to acquire Comunidade lands for public projects.
The amendment stipulates that comunidades seeking to develop plots through private agencies must invite bids only after getting the government’s approval. Earlier this year, the Goa Legislative Diploma No. 2070 dated 15-4-1961 (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was passed by the Goa Legislative Assembly, as a step towards streamlining the functioning of the managing committee of comunidades.
It also seeks to enable the government, with prior consent, to grant land up to two lakh sq. mtrs. on lease to any educational or health institution, or a social trust involved in such projects.
Overall, the amendment aims to facilitate the development of lands by private agencies and to regulate the process of granting land by comunidades.
