After two failed attempts to launch redevelopment projects, the Goa state government has received positive responses from bidders for the redevelopment of the Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana (SSSK) at Dharbandora and a 5,000-seat international convention centre at Dona Paula.
The combined estimated cost of the two projects is Rs 700 crore. Around eight companies showed interest, with four bidding for the sugar factory redevelopment and five for the convention centre. The convention centre, estimated at Rs 570 crore, includes a multiplex, convention hotel, and other MICE facilities.
Despite setbacks, the government is hopeful about the PPP model's success for these developments. The redevelopment of the sugar factory alone is estimated at Rs 130 crore, and while initial attempts to attract bidders were unsuccessful, the government remains determined to move forward.
