The government has approved 237 power projects worth over Rs 10 lakh crore over the past 10 years, under the Pragati scheme, aimed at fast-tracking the implementation of crucial infrastructure projects.
The initiative, launched in March 2015, operates under the direct supervision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A total of 53 projects, valued at Rs 4.1 lakh crore, were identified as delayed and were directly monitored by the Prime Minister. Of these, 43 projects worth Rs three lakh crore, including significant thermal, hydro, and transmission projects, have now been successfully commissioned. Major projects reviewed under Pragati include the Gadarwara Super Thermal Power Project and the Tehri pumped storage project. With 108 ongoing projects worth Rs six lakh crore, the platform continues to enhance project delivery timelines.
The Pragati platform has helped minimise inter-departmental delays, improving the execution of power projects. "Pragati established itself as a model of proactive governance, bridging the gap between policy formulation and field-level execution," an official said.
