The government is expected to roll out the first set of approvals under the Rs 3,000 crore production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for electronics components within the next two to three months, likely by August or September.
The scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet on March 28, focuses on passive or non-semiconductor electronic parts such as camera modules, connectors, and battery packs. An overwhelming number of applications have been received from both established players and new entrants. A project management agency is likely to be appointed soon to evaluate these applications.
Approvals are being fast-tracked, with the application deadline set for the end of July. Dixon Technologies considers the initiative strategic and plans to apply. Josh Foulger, President of Zetwerk Electronics, emphasised that while the ecosystem takes 18–24 months to mature, “the scheme is on the right track” and will help deepen domestic value addition and technology development.
