The Greenfield Mulapeta Deepwater Port in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district will witness its trial run in December 2025 with the arrival of its first ship, while full commissioning is targeted for June 2026.
Developed by the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board at an estimated cost of Rs 4,300 crore, the port is strategically located 180 km from Visakhapatnam and designed to boost north coastal Andhra’s maritime infrastructure. In its first phase, the port will feature four berths within an artificial harbour protected by two breakwaters—the south breakwater of 2,855 mtrs. and the north breakwater of 580 mtrs. With a draft depth of 52 ft., it can handle 120,000 DWT vessels, including coal, container, and multipurpose cargo.
Mega industries worth Rs two lakh crore, including ExxonMobil, Haldia Petrochemicals, Yamna (UK), and Kalyani Steels, have lined up investments across 7,000 acres near the port. The Visakhapatnam Port Authority has also expressed interest in investment.
The connectivity will be enhanced by a 200-km coastal highway linking Mulapeta Port to Bhogapuram Airport.
