The much-awaited Greenfield Project in Mohali, aimed at reducing traffic congestion on Airport Road and providing an alternative route to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir, is set to open on December 1 after missing its June and September deadlines.
The project, executed under the Central government’s Bharatmala Pariyojana at a cost of Rs 1,400 crore, spans 31 km from IT Chowk in Mohali to Kurali-Chandigarh Road. Despite earlier delays due to floods, rains, and landowner protests, the majority of construction has been completed. The road will feature a toll, though rates are still undecided.
Local officials are confident the project will improve traffic flow, particularly for commuters from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu, who will avoid the longer route via Ludhiana. Some finishing work, including road markings, is expected to be completed in the next 10 days.
