The Gujarat Government is expected to pump in Rs 9,000 crore in 2011 for
construction of Narmada canal network.
As part of the project, Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat, on 18 April
2011, laid the foundation stone of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam's Morbi branch
canal work at Tarajpar village in Morbi town of Rajkot district.
The Morbi branch canal work will be carried out with the estimated cost of Rs
517.05 crore and will help irrigate 61,757 ha. The branch canals will cover 63
villages in Surendranagar district and 24 in Rajkot district. The work is slated
to be completed by 2012.
Meanwhile, tenders for remaining works of the branch canal and ancillary
distribution network with an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore has already been
invited & under consideration. These works are also expected to commence in due
course.
