Mercedes-Benz India has started local production of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS at its Pune facility, marking a significant milestone in the company’s manufacturing capabilities in the country.
India becomes the first market outside the United States to locally produce the ultra-luxury vehicle. To kick off 2026, Mercedes-Benz also launched the Mercedes-Maybach GLS ‘Celebration Edition’ priced at Rs 4.10 crore. The shift to local production is driven by the increasing demand for ultra-luxury vehicles, enabling faster delivery and improving customer access to top-tier luxury. Since its debut in June 2021, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS has become highly aspirational among Indian consumers. In 2026, Mercedes-Benz aims to launch 12 new cars in India, featuring new models, first-time products, and several facelifts.
A significant portion of these launches will include high-end vehicles and new battery electric models. The company also plans to expand its retail presence by establishing 15 new luxury touchpoints across three emerging markets and upgrading 15 existing locations to align with its new architectural standards. Mercedes-Benz franchise partners are set to invest over Rs 450 crore to enhance the retail network and deliver a world-class customer experience.
