The international terminal of Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport will be operational by November 2025.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma made this announcement on 06 August while accompanying a delegation from Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindful City to review the construction progress. "It will be opened in November and we will invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate this state-of-the-art modern infrastructure," CM Sarma stated. The Bhutanese delegation commended the new terminal, noting it would improve connectivity between the two nations.
The new terminal is expected to be a game changer for international air travel in the Northeast region, serving as a critical hub for regional cooperation and economic development.
The government also plans to transform land near Guwahati airport into a major tourism and entertainment hub. On August 1, the Chief Minister announced proposals for a Bharat Mandapam-inspired stadium, a convention centre for regional conclaves and concerts, and a Universal Studios-style entertainment park. The project will also include hotels and wedding venues.
