The Madras High Court has permitted Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) to construct a skywalk and lay a sewage pipeline on open space reservation (OSR) land belonging to Trellis South Flat Owners Welfare Association near Forum Vijaya Mall in Vadapalani.

The Court order, passed by Justice M. Dhandapani, mandates CMRL to complete the work by May 2026. CMRL filed a plea seeking permission to use the OSR land, which was originally gifted to the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) on 02 February, 2016, and later transferred to CMRL for public infrastructure works.

The Court noted that while permission for skywalk construction was previously granted, the new application addressed the need for a sewage line after the existing system for Phase I was damaged due to repeated road works on the 100-feet road. A joint inspection by CMRL and Metrowater concluded that the only feasible option for the new sewage connection to Arcot Road was through the OSR land. The skywalk will serve as a crucial link between Phase I and Phase II of the Vadapalani Metro station.
