The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has received state government approval to construct an overhead sky cable car connecting the historic Golconda Fort and Qutb Shahi Tombs.
The long-pending tourism infrastructure project, initially cleared in 2021, aims to boost tourist footfall in the heritage precinct. The 1.5 km ropeway will be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model to minimise HMDA’s financial burden. Knight Frank, a real estate consultancy, has been assigned to conduct a feasibility study and submit a detailed project report (DPR) within three to four months.
The cable car is estimated to cost around Rs 100 crore and will feature two terminals — one near the entrance of Golconda Fort and the other at the Qutb Shahi Tombs. Travel time between the two sites will be reduced from 15–20 minutes by road to just five to 10 minutes. The project is expected to be completed within two years.
