Himachal Pradesh (HP) government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with HLC Green Energy on 27 March, 2023 towards making it the ‘First Green State’ by 2025.
The company plans to invest more than Rs 4,000 crore in the project, which will facilitate job creation for 2,500 persons, as also a pool of skilled labour in the nearby villages.
The state envisages a green hydrogen fuel-based economy, and the project aligned to this vision will require 300 megawatts of electricity and 50,000 kilolitres of water.
HP Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that green hydrogen would reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and also help to cut down on fertiliser prices. Moreover, as an established producer of hydel energy, the state will encourage the use of ethanol, green hydrogen, green ammonia, besides solar power.
