Chinese home appliance manufacturer Haier will invest Rs 800 crore in India to expand its air-conditioner (AC) production capacity and set up a printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing unit.
The investment includes Rs 700 crore for a new AC plant at its Greater Noida facility, increasing its annual capacity from 1.5 million to 2.5 million units. Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh on 09 March, 2025 laid the foundation for the plant and inaugurated an injection moulding unit. The company completed a Rs 200 crore investment in injection moulding, enabling in-house production of plastic components for household appliances, bringing Haier's cumulative investment in India to Rs 1,600 crore.
Additionally, Rs 100 crore will be used to set up a PCB plant, which will begin commercial production by October 2025, manufacturing PCBs for ACs, washing machines, and refrigerators. The investment will be funded through internal accruals and external commercial borrowings.
Separately, Haier is exploring selling a stake in its Indian entity, with multiple non-binding bids received. This move aims to reduce reliance on government approvals under Press Note 3 and support funding for a third manufacturing plant, with potential locations identified in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The company currently operates two plants in Greater Noida and Pune.
