The Haryana government plans to establish an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in the state, following the successful establishment of IIM Rohtak in 2009 and the foundation of AIIMS in Rewari in February 2024.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed officials to prepare a proposal to be sent to the Central government, expressing the state's readiness to provide land for the campus. The proposed IIT would deliver world-class technical education, equipping students with industry-relevant skills and knowledge.
The upcoming AIIMS in Rewari, whose construction is expected to take three years, will start OPD services in a few months, according to Union Minister Rao Inderjeet Singh. This development signifies the state's commitment to enhancing its healthcare infrastructure. In addition to expanding national educational institutions, the Haryana government is actively facilitating the establishment of international university campuses in Gurugram.
In November 2024, a consortium of six Australian universities discussed setting up a joint campus in Gurugram. This campus will offer four-year undergraduate programs in fields like software engineering, cyber security, artificial intelligence, tourism, and financial technology.
Similarly, the UK's University of Southampton received approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) in August 2024 to establish an offshore campus in Gurgaon, expected to begin academic programs in July 2025.
