Haryana government will set up two 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power units in Hisar and Panipat to meet its growing electricity demand, State Energy Minister Anil Vij has announced.
The projects, proposed by the Haryana Power Generation Corporation (HPGCL), were discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi. The estimated cost of the two projects is expected to be around Rs 12,000 crore. These ultra-efficient thermal units aim to significantly enhance the state’s power availability, aligning with the surging energy needs of households, businesses, and industries. Officials have been instructed to expedite the process by facilitating coal linkage and other logistical requirements.
Additionally, the implementation of smart meters across the state was reviewed during the meeting. Given the steep rise in peak electricity consumption, the state has also requested an increase in its battery energy storage systems (BESS) allocation—from the existing 500 MW to 1,500 MW, to ensure better grid stability and power backup.
