On 06 November, 2023, Hinduja Renewables Energy secured a contract to set up a 250 MW solar project under tariff-based competitive bidding by NHPC.
By securing this contract, Hinduja will be able to minimise the carbon emissions equivalent of over 5,51,000 tonne annually and aims to create a multi-GW suite of renewables.
NHPC had issued a tender to develop three GW of interstate transmission system (ISTS) connected solar power projects anywhere in India. Hinduja Renewables, an independent renewable power producer, is one of the eight bidders for the capacity.
Apart from Hinduja, NHPC has awarded a contract to Solairedirect Energy India (ENGIE) with 250 MW, Avaada Energy with 1,000 MW, Hazel Hybren (Mahindra) with 300 MW, Jakson with 400 MW, Sprng Energy with 250 MW, Green Infra Wind Energy (Sembcorp) with 300 MW, and Apraava Energy with 250 MW.
These projects are expected to be commissioned within 18 months from the effective date of signing the power purchase agreement (PPA). The appointed solar project developers will be responsible for obtaining ISTS connectivity.
