Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan (HURL) will award projects for the first of its three gas-based fertiliser plants before December 2017. In June 2016, HURL was given the mandate to revive three fertiliser plants at Gorakpur, Sindri of FCI and and Barauni of HFCL.
HURL is a joint venture between NTPC, Coal India, Indian Oil Corporation, Fertiliser Corporation of India, and Hindustan Fertiliser Corporation.
The three plants will be commissioned by 2020 on an equal cost sharing basis.
The company has received environmental clearance for all the three plants. The pre-project activities are underway. Bids have been placed and the company will soon select a consultant.
The proposed scope of work involves setting up of an ammonia plant of 2,200 tpd and a urea plant of 3,850 tpd at each of these units at Gorakhpur, Sindri and Barauni at an estimated cost of Rs 6,000 crore for each unit. The total project cost was estimated at Rs 18,000 crore for the three plants.
