Honda Siel Cars India, the Indian arm
of Honda Motors of Japan, has shortlisted three states -- Maharashtra,
Uttaranchal and Rajasthan -- for its proposed greenfield manufacturing facility
in India. The new plant with a capacity of one lakh cars per year will cost $200
million (around Rs.900 crore).
Currently, Honda Siel Cars produces
three models -- City, Civic and Accord -- at its Surajpur unit in Surguja
district of Chhattisgarh. The capacity of this plant is being raised to 62,000
units per year by March 2007 and the same will be further stepped up to 1 lakh
units per year by March 2008.
