The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, on 22 August, 2023 has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) for strategic and innovation-led alliance to achieve clean energy and sustainability objectives.

The initiatives include clean hydrogen production, carbon capture, storage, and others and make way for research and development.

IIT Roorkee will offer consultancy to enhance the efficiency of the existing effluent treatment, as well as provide technology, including the design and supply of equipment for converting biomass into bio-coal and bio-coke. It will also assist in the area of design, technology, and equipment for conditioning plastic waste and waste tires and their utilisation.

Additionally, it will carry out a study of the composition of slag and develop a process for the recovery of metals to reduce chromium content.
