Indian and Swedish companies have teamed up to decarbonise high-emission sectors like cement and steel.
Leading Indian companies such as Tata Steel, JK Cement, and Ambuja Cements, alongside Swedish tech innovators like Kanthal and Swerim, will launch seven projects focused on using hydrogen, AI, and recycling steel slag. These initiatives are aimed at reducing carbon emissions as India moves toward its 2070 net-zero target. The projects will explore hydrogen use in steel production, recycling steel slag to create green cement, and AI for cement decarbonisation.
Pre-pilot feasibility studies will take place in India under the 'LeadIT industry transition partnership,' backed by India’s Department of Science and Technology and Sweden’s Energy Agency. This collaboration is part of the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT) initiative, designed to help heavy industries reach net-zero by 2050. Top Indian institutes like IIT Bombay and IIT-ISM Dhanbad will also be involved in these efforts.
