Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) has taken a significant step in India's energy security with the commencement of its first domestic oil production from the Jyoti-1 well in Gujarat's Block CB-ONN-2005/9.
The Union Minister of Petroleum, Hardeep Singh Puri, announced the milestone on 14 November, 2025, highlighting the effort as an important contribution to India's energy independence. The achievement is part of IOCL’s renewed focus on the upstream sector and aligns with the government’s efforts to optimise domestic resources.
The development follows India's broader strategy to strengthen energy security, including diversifying fuel sources. Earlier, Minister Puri also announced a historic deal for importing LPG from the U.S. for the first time, ensuring greater fuel supply diversity.
