India added 23 GW of renewable energy capacity between April and August of FY26, marking a significant leap in its clean energy journey, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced at the FT Live Energy Transition Summit India.
“So far in this fiscal, India added 23 GW of renewable capacity in just 5 months. Now this is a feat that most nations cannot achieve in several years,” Minister Joshi said. The country's installed non-fossil fuel capacity has reached approx. 252 GW, surpassing the halfway mark towards the 500 GW target set for 2030. India also achieved 50 percent of its electricity capacity from non-fossil sources five years ahead of its Paris Agreement goals, making it the only G20 nation to meet 2030 targets by 2021.
Minister Joshi highlighted the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which has solarised around two million homes, projecting a total addition of 30 GW from rooftop solar installations, benefiting more families than the populations of Austria or Singapore.
