Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi has announced that India has added 30 GW of renewable energy generation capacity so far in 2025.
“We are optimistic of achieving between 39 GW and 43 GW of new capacity by the end of this calendar year,” Joshi stated, highlighting strong progress in solar and wind installations. Between January and June, about 22 GW of solar and wind power was installed, with total operational renewable capacity now at 226 GW.
The Minister noted, “Together with the capacity already operational, this adds up to nearly 499 GW,” underlining that India remains on track to meet its 2030 target of 500 GW installed renewable capacity. To support this growth, the government is addressing delays in power sale agreements and improving weather forecasting. Plans include launching the second phase of PM-KUSUM and the third phase of the Green Energy Corridor.
