India’s green hydrogen production capacity is expected to reach five million tonne per annum by 2030, according to a statement made in Parliament.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) aims to establish India as a global hub for green hydrogen production, usage, and export, said Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy. The mission includes incentives for electrolyser manufacturing, with 15 companies awarded a total capacity of 3,000 MW per year, supported by incentives worth Rs 4,440 crore.
Additionally, 18 companies have been allocated a cumulative capacity of 8,62,000 tonne of green hydrogen production. To further reduce costs, the government has introduced measures like exemptions from interstate transmission charges for plants commissioned by 31 December, 2030. "This initiative will reduce the cost of green hydrogen, making India a leader in the global energy transition," Minister Naik added.
