India plans to develop six port clusters into Mega Ports by 2047 as part of the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.
Four port clusters- Cochin-Vizhinjam, Galathea South Bay, Chennai-Kamarajar-Cuddalore, and Paradip, will each have a capacity of over 300 MTPA. Two additional clusters - Deendayal-Tuna Tekra and Jawaharlal Nehru-Vadhavan, will exceed 500 MTPA capacity.
The initiative focuses on capacity expansion and infrastructure improvements at major ports, supported by public-private partnership (PPP) models and internal resources. The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, shared this information in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
