India set a new record by adding 44.5 GW of renewable energy capacity in 2025 until November, marking the highest capacity addition in a single year, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
The country’s total renewable energy capacity reached 253.96 GW in November, a 23 percent increase from the previous year's 205.52 GW. This year's addition nearly doubles the 24.72 GW added during the same period in 2024. Solar power led the charge, with 34.98 GW added, pushing the total solar capacity to 132.85 GW, up over 41% from the previous year.
Wind energy also saw growth, with 5.82 GW of new capacity, raising India’s total wind power capacity to 53.99 GW, a 12.5 percent rise from last year. India’s renewable energy growth continues to accelerate, contributing significantly to its clean energy transition goals.
