J Kumar Infraprojects has been declared the lowest bidder (L1) by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to construct 4.262 km (Package-I) and 6.038 km (Package-IV) of the 19.88 km Chennai Port-Maduravoyal highway project in Tamil Nadu. The bid is worth Rs 5,510 crore.
The work on the project is likely to begin in August 2023.
The four-laning project includes the construction of a double-decker elevated corridor along the Cooum river. Package-I connects km 0.342 to km 4.604 (Chennai Port to Thousand Lights East), whereas Package-IV connects km 14.185 to km 20.223 (Maduravoyal to Koyambedu).
The project will be carried out under the Bharatmala Pariyojana on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) basis. In May 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the project with an estimated cost of Rs 5,855 crore.
