Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) has begun land acquisition for its Rs 18,000
crore steel plant at Patratu in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand.
JSPL is setting up a six million tpa greenfield unit in two phases of three
million tpa each at Patratu. The project requires a total of 2,500 acre.
JSPL had acquired around 550 acre of the closed plant of Bihar Alloy Steel (BASL)
for setting up the steel plant. It has already acquired around 600 acre. Phase I
of the project is slated to be ready by 2012 as the company will take time in
acquiring land and complete the work on the iron ore mine allotted at
Jaraldaburu near Chaibasa.
This apart, JSPL is also setting up a wire rod unit of 0.6 million tpa
capacity at the site. The rod mill is expected to be operational by December
2009.
