The government has allocated Rs 1,983.06 crore to Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) and two other entities under a scheme to promote coal and lignite gasification.
JSPL has received Rs 569.05 crore for its two MTPA coal gasification project in Angul, Odisha, aimed at producing direct reduced iron (DRI) and utilising carbon capture technology to convert CO2 into valuable products.
New Era Cleantech was granted Rs 1,000 crore for its project in Bhadravati, Maharashtra, with a focus on producing ammonium nitrate and hydrogen, using carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) technology for methanol production.
Greta Energy has received Rs 414.01 crore for its project at MIDC Bhadravati, aiming to produce 0.5 MTPA of DRI. The government's Financial Incentive Scheme, launched in January 2024 with an outlay of Rs 8,500 crore, promotes coal/lignite gasification projects in three categories, offering grants to both PSUs and private sector entities.
