JSW Thermal Energy, a subsidiary of JSW Energy, has entered into a contract with Toshiba JSW Power Systems to procure two 800 MW steam turbine generators for its Salboni Thermal Project in West Bengal.
The turbines will be manufactured and supplied as per the project’s construction timeline, ensuring the timely completion and commissioning of the plant. By sourcing key equipment through its associate company, JSW Energy aims to enhance supply-chain reliability, improve coordination, and minimize risks from industry-wide equipment shortages. Currently, the company operates 5,658 MW of thermal generation capacity, powered by both imported and domestic coal.
With 1,600 MW under construction at Salboni and an additional 1,800 MW planned for KSK Mahanadi, the company’s total thermal capacity is set to rise to 9,058 MW. This will represent about 30 percent of its total locked-in capacity of 30.5 GW, highlighting the balanced role of thermal power in its portfolio.
