The Andhra Pradesh state government has approved the establishment of a mega industrial park by JSW Industrial Park in S Kota, Vizianagaram district.
The company, formerly Jindal South West Aluminium Limited, will set up the park on 1,166 acres it had acquired years ago. Initially, the land was earmarked for a 1.5 million tonne capacity alumina refinery with a proposed investment of Rs 4,000 crore. However, the project stalled due to issues with bauxite mining permissions. Following Government Order (GO No. 184), the industrial park project now has the necessary approvals.
The government will provide infrastructure support, including water and power. Water will be temporarily sourced from Mehadrigedda and later from Thatipudi reservoir at a subsidised rate of Rs 25 per kilolitre for 25 years. Two substations will be built to supply 25 MW of power. The company will also receive a 100 percent concession on land-use change. Despite progress, some farmers continue to demand the return of their lands.
