JSW Bengal Steel is likely to begin
the site work for the 10 million tpa integrated steel project at Kharagpur in
Midnapore district of West Bengal by early February 2008.
The proposed Rs.35,000 crore
integrated steel plant project is expected to achieve financial closure by April
2008. The company was on the verge of completing land acquisition for the
project, with a mere 10-15 acres of private land still to be acquired. The total
land requirement is around 5,000 acres, of which 90 per cent is vested with the
state government. The project recently got clearance from the Ministry of
Environment & Forest.
Phase I of the project, with a
capacity of three million tpa, will entail an investment of Rs.10,000 crore and
expected to be operational by March 2011 and Phase II of the project, with six
million tpa capacity, is scheduled for completion by June 2011.
