Jindal Stainless (JSL) plans to invest Rs 40,000 crore in Maharashtra to establish a stainless steel manufacturing facility, aiming to enhance India’s self-reliance in stainless steel production. The proposal has been approved by the Maharashtra government’s cabinet subcommittee, chaired by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.
The facility, set to be developed over the next 10 years, will have a total melting capacity of four MTPA and is expected to generate employment opportunities for 15,000 people. The project will be constructed in phases, with the first phase becoming operational within the next four years.
The facility will manufacture a broad range of stainless steel flat products with varying grades, finishes, and thicknesses to serve established sectors. Additionally, it will produce specialised stainless steel grades for critical applications in emerging sectors such as hydrogen, nuclear energy, defense, mobility, infrastructure, and process industries.
The Maharashtra government has committed to facilitating the investment by expediting necessary approvals, clearances, registrations, and financial incentives through relevant state departments. JSL Chairman Ratan Jindal emphasised that the investment aligns with India's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, reducing import dependence and setting new benchmarks in technology, sustainability, and product quality.
