The NTR district forest department is set to launch a Jungle Safari at the Mulapadu Butterfly Park on a trial basis. Located in Kondapalli Reserve Forest at Mulapadu village, the Butterfly Park was inaugurated in 2018 and has since drawn thousands of nature enthusiasts.
It is the first butterfly park in the district and the second in Andhra Pradesh after Visakhapatnam, housing around 50 species of butterflies, including 15 rare varieties. A two-km butterfly trail has been developed with support from NGOs, allowing visitors to observe butterflies in their natural habitat. Recent upgrades to the park were funded by Rs 1.5 crore from APGENCO’s CSR fund and Rs two crore from Nagaravanam funds, leading to its reopening in January 2025 with enhanced facilities.
The upcoming 14-km Jungle Safari will culminate at the Lord Anjaneya Swamy temple. Two safari vehicles have been procured and customised. Over the past six months, the park has welcomed 18,000 visitors. Officials expect the Jungle Safari to significantly increase tourist footfall.
