The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department has announced the establishment of 800 homestay-cum-B&B units in Prayagraj under the UP Homestay and Bed & Breakfast Policy 2025, replacing the previous Paying Guest policy.
The initiative aims to provide pilgrims and tourists with secure, high-quality accommodations while promoting local culture and traditions. Regional Tourist Officer Aparajita Singh stated, "Pilgrims and tourists coming to the state will now be provided high-level residential facilities in homestay and B&B units registered by the tourism department."
The policy sets distinct standards for urban and rural homestays. In urban areas, the owner must physically reside in the property with their family and may rent out up to two-thirds of the rooms, with a minimum of one room and a maximum of six rooms (up to 12 beds). Larger properties like hotels and guest houses are excluded from this scheme. Under the policy, urban units must serve breakfast, while rural homestays must provide meals and offer guests an immersive rural lifestyle experience.
Safety is a top priority, and each unit must have a caretaker, at least three CCTV cameras with a 90-day recording facility, and fire safety equipment approved by the fire department.
