Kakinada Seaports (KSPL) has earmarked Rs 800 crore to increase its handling
capacity to 20 million tonne.
The port has taken up various expansion works to augment the handling
capacity. Currently, it has four berths.
While three berths are likely to be ready in two years, KSPL is planning to
construct six more over the next 3-4 years. Also, it is likely to take up
deepening and widening the entrance channel to accommodate larger vessels.
While a sum of Rs 200 crore is likely to come from promoters, the remaining
is to come through financial institutions.
