The Karnataka State Cabinet has approved a Rs 2,215 crore project for a short tunnel-elevated corridor connecting Hebbal Junction and Mehkri Circle.
This plan differs from the ongoing Hebbal-Silk Board tunnel project, which is currently under tendering. The new corridor will address local traffic issues in areas like Ganganagar, Sanjay Nagar, and RT Nagar, which are not serviced by the larger twin tunnel project. Suggested by Bengaluru Traffic Police, the project will feature a 2.27 km three-lane twin tunnel from Hebbal Junction to the Karnataka Veterinary University, followed by an elevated corridor leading to Mehkri Circle. Mehkri Circle will be revamped into a rotary interchange, integrating multiple flyovers.
Originally estimated at Rs 1,325 crore, the project’s cost has now increased to Rs 2,215 crore due to additional flyover plans. The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will manage the project and finance it through its own resources.
