The Karnataka government has approved the feasibility study for the Bengaluru-Tumakuru Metro extension, bringing the project closer to implementation. Announced by Home Minister G Parameshwara, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) conducted the study with a Hyderabad-based firm, costing Rs three crore. Following this, the government has directed BMRCL to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, also estimated at Rs three crore.
The extension will span 59.6 km, connecting Madavara on Bengaluru’s Green Line to Tumakuru. The project, first proposed in the 2024-25 Karnataka budget by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is estimated to cost Rs 20,649 crore. This new rapid transit link is expected to enhance connectivity between Bengaluru and Tumakuru, benefiting commuters and supporting regional development.
Several private companies have shown interest in the project, which is a significant expansion of Bengaluru’s metro network.<
