Kerala is set to accelerate land acquisition efforts for the industrialisation surrounding Vizhinjam Port, set to begin EXIM cargo operations by December 2025.
The state government has directed Vizhinjam International Seaport (VISL) and key agencies to hasten the process and submit the proposed parcels for final approval by the Cabinet at the earliest to secure 2,700 acres in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts. Of this, 700 acres have been identified by VISL, with the remaining 2,000 acres earmarked by Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) and Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The land is essential for building crucial logistics infrastructure like container yards, truck terminals, and warehouses.
The land acquisition process is being fast-tracked for timely completion before the port's operational launch. Additionally, a Rs 360- crore four-loop interchange project is under consideration for the port approach road, requiring about 30 acres. The state aims to finalise approvals soon to meet tight deadlines for the industrialisation plan.
