Construction of the new Vizhinjam fishing harbour is set to begin in November 2025, coinciding with the second and third phases of capacity augmentation of the Vizhinjam International Seaport.
The Rs 271-crore project is split into two packages: Package 1, managed by Adani Vizhinjam Port (AVPPL), involves core harbour infrastructure like a 500mtrs. fishery berth, a 235 mtrs. breakwater, and supporting facilities. Package 2, costing Rs125 crore, is being executed by the Harbour Engineering Department (HED) and includes a 250m angled breakwater.
The harbour will be built between the existing fishing area and the international port and will support traditional boats, as requested by fishermen. Meanwhile, port expansion works are progressing, with Engineers India appointed to oversee design and construction, targeting completion by December 2028.
