After a five-year gap, Krishna river water has reached the drought-prone Madakasira constituency in south-west corner of Andhra Pradesh, bordering Karnataka.
This region, located at a high elevation, faces extreme groundwater scarcity, with water only accessible after drilling 1,000 ft. deep. Water was diverted through the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) Canal via Gollapalli reservoir and Parigi tank. The arrival of water at the Manur irrigation tank in Madakasira mandal of Satya Sai district sparked celebrations.
The released Krishna water is expected to revive 160 irrigation tanks, including those in Agali and Amarapuram, bringing much-needed relief to the parched region. Water has also been released to Kuppam near the Tamil Nadu-AP border.
