Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the Polavaram irrigation project upon its completion, tentatively by June 2027.

Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu shared this update in New Delhi after attending a review meeting on the project led by Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil. Although the state initially aimed to complete the project by December 2026, the new target aligns with the Godavari Pushkaralu in July 2027 to ensure the PM's participation in the inauguration. 

Minister Rama Naidu said that Union Minister Patil welcomed Andhra Pradesh’s commitment and that the Centre had expressed satisfaction with the project's progress and transparency. He also highlighted the major benefits of the project, including the stabilisation of 23.5 lakh acres of ayacut, potable water supply, and 960 MW power generation. The Minister emphasized ongoing work on both construction and resettlement and rehabilitation components.
