L&T Shipbuilding is set up a ship building facility at Kadipully in Chennai.
The company is likely to invest around Rs 1,500 crore to develop around 800
acre at Kadipully to expand its vessel building capacity. The project is to be
developed in phased manner. Work on the Phase I is likely to commence by June
2011.
The company has acquired about 1,200 acre at Kadipully. Of the total area,
the company plans utilised only 800 acre for shipbuilding activities. It is
likely to make vessels of size 210 mtrs long and 46 mtrs in width. Primarily, it
plans to make vessels for defence to cater to the Indian Navy.
