Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has awarded Larsen & Toubro (L&T) two track-work contracts totaling Rs 500.94 crore for Bangalore Metro's 56 km Line-5 (Blue Line).
The project entails the supply and construction of approximately 110 km of ballastless tracks for the main line as well as ballasted tracks inside the remodelled Baiyappanahalli Depot and Airport Depot at Shettigere.
The Phase-2A (ORR line) and Phase-2B (airport line) of the Bangalore Metro would connect Silkboard-KR Puram-Bengaluru International Airport via 30 stations on the outer ring road and NH-44. BMRCL had invited bids for the contract in two packages (T1 and T2) in October 2022, with a three-year completion period.
The scope of T1 covers the entire ORR line and a part of the airport line between Silk Board Metro station (km. 0.00) to Krishnarajapuram Metro station (km. 18.236) and Kempapura Metro station (km. 10.200) in Phase-2A and 2B. It is estimated to cost Rs 268 crore.
Similarly, T2 extends from Kempapura Metro station (km. 10.200) to Airport Metro station (km. 36.530) in Phase-2B. The package is estimated to cost Rs 232 crore.
