India is planning to build the largest solar power project in the cold desert of Ladakh.
The largest solar power project will be built by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the project will be able to generate 5,000 MW of power, which will be the biggest in the country and in the world.
The new power project will be set up in Leh district which is at an altitude of 11,562 ft. The project requires at least 20,000 acre.
The district administration of Leh will start the process of identifying suitable land within a month's time.
After completion of the project, a fresh transmission line for power supply and distribution will be required.
It is estimated that the power project will take years or even decades to complete due to the location's disadvantages and climatic problems.
